IUFRO Newsletter

Dear IUFRO Officeholders:
Dear Colleagues:

IUFRO promotes forest science cooperation through a global network of about 650 member organizations with up to 15,000 scientists in more than 120 countries. The current IUFRO Strategy "Reading the pulse of forest science for the benefit of forest and people", http://www.iufro.org/discover/strategy/, will expire in 2014, and a new IUFRO Strategy will be adopted at the XXIV IUFRO World Congress (5-11 October 2014; Salt Lake City, Utah, United States).

With a view to preparing the new IUFRO Strategy, it is essential to clearly understand the needs and preferences of IUFRO's member organizations and scientists, and their perceptions of IUFRO's role. Therefore, the IUFRO Management Committee, with the assistance of IUFRO Headquarters, has prepared this questionnaire for Heads of IUFRO Member Organizations.

We would be most grateful if you could dedicate approximately 30 minutes of your time to answering several questions at http://www.iufro.org/iufro-questionnaire-2012-officeholders/ by 15 September 2012.

Your answers will serve as an essential input for drafting the new IUFRO Strategy 2015-2019. The results of the survey will be used by an independent Review Panel to prepare specific recommendations to the IUFRO Board. This Review Panel will take up its work in autumn 2012 and is expected to deliver its report by mid 2013. After that, it will again be your turn, and you will be asked to provide specific comments on the draft new IUFRO Strategy before the 2014 IUFRO World Congress.

Without further delay, let us now proceed to the questions at http://www.iufro.org/iufro-questionnaire-2012-officeholders/. For questions or assistance kindly contact Ms. Brigitte Burger (burger(at)iufro.org).

We thank you for dedicating your time to this important matter!

Sincerely yours,

Niels Elers Koch
IUFRO President
